BRIGHTEYE BRISON - BRIGHTEYE BRISON
Written By Henkka www.metal-only.com

Wow, this band came out of nowhere! But it’s from Sweden anyway.

Their record company name used to be C.L. Music & Publishing but since its owner went married and took her wife’s last name in use, so he changed company’s name same time. So who is this guy? His name was Christian Liljegren, nowadays known as Christian Rivel. So who is he? He is singer of Narnia band, from Sweden also. And what this got to do with this record review?

I’ll tell you! Keyboards player Linus Kåse plays also with Narnia these days, and this Brighteye Brison is him another band so far. So how this band’s music differs from Narnia then? Like day and night. BB’s music isn’t metal at all, yet melodic but more progressive oriented rock music. I would compare them with The Flower Kings, better-known great Swedish progressive type band.

Album begins with short intro, and continues with 4 parts “One Year Alone” masterpiece is cut different tracks, so it’s easier to listen each track alone. Totally it clock almost 30 minutes! So it reminds me easily The Flower Kings, or even TransAtlantic stuff. Hopefully this self-titled album won’t be theirs only, I wish to hear more material later someday.

Sound quality lacks a bit, so does the vocals few times. Musically and lyrically good stuff! Next time BB heads into the studio, probably they will have more time (and money) to mix and fix. But this is rather good independent record all in all. And for those who think is this Christian music, I’d say yes. But it’s not that easy to find, songs just done for all listeners.

Band:
Linus Kåse – lead and backing vocals, grand piano, Hammond organ, mellotron, saxophones, etc.
Johan Öijen – electric and acoustic guitars, backing vocals
Kristofer Eng – lead and backing vocals, electric and fretless bass
Daniel Kåse – lead and backing vocals, drums, tamourine, tubular bells, congas, triangle, etc.
